The crime drama will return with four more episodes.
June 13, 2017
BBC America announced this week that Luther will be returning for a fifth season. Four new episodes of the British crime drama have been ordered, with production set to kick off in early 2018.
The critically-acclaimed series follows John Luther, a Detective Chief Inspector for the Serious and Serial Crime Unit. His dedicated and obsessive nature leaves him unable to prevent himself from being consumed by the darkness of the crimes he deals with on a daily basis.
While no premiere date for Season 5 has been announced, a return sometime next year appears likely. The upcoming episodes will be the first new season of Luther in over two years.

IMSC hasn't reported this, so I will. Luther creator Neil Cross has confirmed that there will not be a sixth season of the BBC detective series. The hit show, which stars Idris Elba as DCI John Luther, has been off screens for nearly two years – though it seems a follow-up to season five on the small screen is now off the cards.

Only the first two seasons are worth watching. Alice and his partner was the best part of the show.

Luther stop messing with my emotions. I've been going through withdrawal. Idris stop globe trotting (I'm proud of you). Let's get back on the case and "Crack on"!

Ha! PJAmerica.. your post read like you were Indra's best buddy.. like you new "he's a busy guy".. it was just sad. Don't blame me for pointing out what a hollow existence you have if you need to name drop on a random comment system as if you're important or something.

@bub: Are you just wanting to pick a fight? Name dropping? It's his name! I am a fan of the man's work. I stated facts that are open source and well known to his fans. Things that anyone who follows his career would know. Grow up man. Always has to be some a@@hole trolling the net for no reason other than to start something.

A 2 episode season now a 4 episode season? Sheesh. Why not just call it a "made for TV movie" and broadcast it in one night?

Short seasons may seem like a joke and really shouldn't be called seasons, but it is an incredible show and anyone who likes the subject matter, but choses not to check it out is only doing a disservice to his/herself. After all, most people watch movies which are obviously much shorter!
I want to send a shout out to Idris Elba for his dedication to the character Luther and to the viewers. How many actors would bother to continue television when their careers are doing as well his. It makes me like him even more.

Ya gotta kinda watch the show. 2 episodes for a "season" does seem like a disservice. But really it's more like an ongoing mini-series than a "series". It's character driven.... think of the tv airings like Dirty Harry movies... it's more about the lead character than any one storyline. I absolutely agree that 2 episodes is silly, if nothing else. But I think just the nature of TV prevents them from calling this a mini-series or "special presentation" or something other than a "season". And quite honestly... I anticipate EVERY "season" being the last... because they all wrap up nicely, like a film would.
