MTV announced today that Fear Factor has been renewed for an eighth season, which will be its second on the cable network since being revived earlier this year after a five-year absence. The iconic dare/stunt game show wraps up its current summer run tonight at 10:00pm.

Fear Factor originated on NBC back in 2001 and become one of its first hit reality shows. Its success continued for a number of years before eventually being cancelled in 2006. An attempt to bring the show back in 2011 fizzled out after just one season.

The current installment on MTV is part of a new partnership with actor and recording artist Ludacris, who executive produces and hosts the show. The 2017 version has been updated for today's generation with stunts inspired by viral videos, scary movies, and urban legends. Teams of contestants are taken outside their comfort zones as they face their fears and battle it out for the $50,000 grand prize.

A supersized 20 episodes have ordered for the next season of Fear Factor, which is slated to premiere in 2018.
