ABC revealed in a surprise announcement today that it is canceling daytime soap opera One Life To Live. The news was revealed as part of a press release where the network announced two new shows, The Chew and The Revolution. All My Children was also canceled as part of the announcement.
On the air since 1968, One Life To Live has come to be known for its controversial subject matter in its storylines, which dealt with such things as medical misdiagnosis, racial prejudice, and homophobia. The series has been honored multiple times by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) for Outstanding Daytime Drama.
The final episode of One Life To Live will air in January 2012.
