13 new episodes of the sci-fi series have been ordered for 2012.

Syfy has announced that freshman series Alphas has been renewed for a second season. The network has ordered 13 additional episodes of the superhuman drama for 2012.
"Alphas' smart, innovative approach to a superhero franchise has clearly caught on with our audience," said Syfy's president of original content, Mark Stern. "From the first-rate writing to the outstanding cast lead by David Strathairn, we're very proud of what was achieved in its first season and look forward to seeing this series fulfill even more of its creative potential in a second season."
Alphas, which premiered in July, follows a team of investigators with superhuman powers out to thwart evildoers with similar abilities. The show has aired eight of its 11 first-season episodes thus far, averaging 3.3 million total viewers (Live + 7 data). Its debut holds the distinction of being Syfy's most-watched original scripted series premiere in two years.

This is a great show that unlike many Sci-Fi shows has wonderfully complex character development and great plots, not to mention incredible actors. I hope it has a long run on TV...and maybe a movie spin off would be nice.

I don't watch new SyFy shows until it is announced that they are renewed for a second year. I just watched the first episode. Congratulations, I liked it.

It seems it does not pay to start watching a show because it will be cancelled. Im glad Alphas and some of the others were renewed. I just wish Eureka would come back.

Let's hope alphas will not become a total mess like heroes did. And syfy should save the money from doing original movies and pick up terra nova instead the show had potentials

im glad this show got renewed, though it could have been better and suffered from lack of a deeper story, the characters especially gary and dr. roseburg really do drive the show. I like so many others am confused as to why wrestling is on my syfy channel..... theres nothing scientific or fanastic about it. in fact id have to say it probably destroys more brain cells than the drug trade. I used to watch it as a kid, then i got in to some real fights and realized they are a bunch of grown men who are are pretending to hit each other, and lost my taste for it, now its just annoying me by taking up prime time slots and constantly going over is alloted time and incroaching upon my scheduled DVR recordings. its scripted, why cant they end it when its supposed to...
