The freshman J.J. Abrams thriller will not return.
May 9, 2012
Fox has cancelled new drama Alcatraz, which premiered earlier this year in January as a mid-season replacement. The series got off to a solid start in the ratings, but viewership dropped off significantly over the course of its 13 episodes. The show's last four episodes rated a series low 1.6 in the key adults 18-49 demographic, which was clearly not enough for Fox to bring back the series.
Also cancelled by Fox today was freshman drama The Finder.

I loved this show but Fox and all the dumb@ss in suits don't have a clue what people want to see anymore. Unless its some douchebag singing, trying to find a wife, make a trip around the world or live on a island for 40 days they think no one cares to see it. I'm done with FOX,NBC,CBS,ABC until a show get's to season 3-5 I'll either watch it online someone or download it off some site. I'm sick of getting into a show and NEVER finding out what happens. Like why the heck did they come back? How did they come back? Whats the deal with that hidden room and the list goes on and on about this show. Whoever at Fox did this MAY YOU BURN IN HELL WITH YOUR WHOLE FAMILY and have a nice day while doing it

I have to agree with many of the comments here. North American TV has become too simplistic and cliche. I'm giving up my cable. For $6.99 a month I can stream intelligent and interesting programming from the BBC. Funny how many of these great shows get picked up and dumbed down for the NA audience.

Idiotic. Just because you have to actually pay attention and be able to use your brain while enjoying a program, doesn't mean they should cancel it. FOX you are out of touch on this decision. I think a revamp of the way ratings are measured may be in order. Time to sell my TV. House is the ONLY other show I have a TV for, and that's 2 shows from ending.

I was a huge fan of this show and am deeply disapointed that Fox will not pick it up again. One of hte comments was correct, this is a thinking show and kept you on the edge and It will be sorely missed. Sorry Fox you blew it on this one.

Very Bad decision Fox. This is a great show. Probably not popular enough because it only appeals to thinking people. Hopefully someone else will pick it up...

The show was just starting to pick up momentum and it gets cancelled? WTH! Why not change the day and/or time?
I often had to watch this show on-demand or on the DVR like alot of us and that probably did hurt the ratings.
I lived this show and will miss it.

Loved this show. This is just too bad. These networks aren't willing to stick by anything anymore. This is the perfect sunday night show after the NFL is over.

I am truly upset about this!! How can they cancel this show! I want to know what happens!! They should have made it air on a different night or time. This is the only show i was REALLY into!!! Make a book out of it or something!!

I am disappointed with Fox, I am busy like most others and I don't have a lot of time for shows BUT I made time for this show. How can the networks taunt us with a show for one season and cancel. Maybe the time slot or day needed to switched. There are 6 other days a week and at least 3 hours to place a show like this into. I hope A&E, HBO or another similar channel picks this show up, I mean how did the "63" disappear, where is the warden, what is in the basement of Alcatraz.... This show was also great for San Francisco and the economy in CA, seeing Alcatraz on TV in this situation peeks your interest to wanting to go to San Fran
