I'm trying not to be angry with others about this show and the ranting about the ratings and "get a life" comments. What could we do to help? Do petitions work? Sometimes, but what else can be done not just for Alphas, but others as well? You can mention a show to some people you know, but might not know anyone who likes a certain type of show. So, then I guess you would have tell strangers. I thought they were suppose do the adverising. I do see fanpages for different shows, but they still get cancelled. They should search the net for fanbases. And yes I know about the ratings;the neilsen ratings needs to be upgraded or something. Like Mike said some of us do record and watch later. I really do believe that sometimes there are more viewers than which get counted. With the reality shows, yeah I'm sick of so many, but I just don't want them to replace other tv shows. That's the problem I fear, if not for that possibly happening then I could just not turn to them.

AGAIN IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE NELSON RATINGS ARE NOT SEEING THE REAL PICTURE. mOST OF US RECORD THE SHOWS AND WATCH THEM AT OUR CONVIENCE. WHILE WATCHING ONE SHOW AND RECORDING ANOTHER DOES THE NELSON RATING COUNTY BOTH SHOWS??? I DO NOT THINK SO.I KNOW ALL OF US WILL HAVE DIFFEREBNT LIKES AND SISLIKES. IT SEAMS WE ALL HATE REALITY SHOWS SO IF WE CONCENTRATE OUR COMBINED EFFORTS MAYBE WE CAN GET THEM CANCELED AND BETTER SHOWS TO REPLACE THEM MKL

Say what you will, but I think that too often execs pull a show prematurely, before it gets its audience.
Take the most notorious example of all time...
Star Trek!
Abruptly CANCELLED at the end of 3 Seasons (just when it was starting to get a serious fan base) was a shock to all of us watching.
And we all know that it went on to become ... well y'all know what became of that franchise.
HUGE, HUGE, HUGE Blunder for NBC!
After lots of changeovers (initially Desilu, Paramount, Viacom ... Star Trek is in the hands of CBS and they have the rights for a new series, but haven't done anything with it.
In Today's rapid fire MTV style of programming, one season for some shows, is NOT enough time to find an audience when there are literally thousands of TV selections (not to mention Internet options) to choose from.
It was easier in the early 60's you had (at least in the big cities) only a few major networks. In NYC you had WABC(7), WCBS(2), WNBC(4), WNET(5), WOR(9) and WPIX(11) - there was no cable or other options. This is before UHF channels and other networks came into being.
I'll admit the cancelled show Last Resort, because of the story line, only had about one or two seasons anyway. You can only hold a sub hostage for a certain period of time before it gets like Gilligan's Island which managed to last 3 seasons.
There is no tolerance anymore for any kind of ratings slip. And because of that, we have the lowest common denominator for the caliber of television that we watch.
I'm sorry, but shows like America's Next Top Model (13 Seasons), Gossip Girl (6 Seasons), Two and a Half Men (10 Seasons), Big Brother (many seasons), Survivor (many seasons), Jersey Shore, Real Housemites and many other less than intelligent shows are just senseless (not to offend anyone) and last many seasons, whereas funny, intelligent and provocative show like The Finder, The Secret Circle, Terra Nova [it was too politically correct ... can't kill a fraking lizard ( T-Rex?) c'mon], Leverage, Last Resort, Fairly Legal, Made in Jersey (slightly better than Fairly Legal), the Firm (GREAT SHOW), Pan Am (Classy), The Playboy Club (was starting to get good), Prime Suspect, V, Caprica(why?), Dollhouse, Heroes(the writers strike took momentum and continuity from that show) and some others get canned.
There's lots of lists out there www.tv.com has the most comprehensive list I've seen. 928 pages with 18,554 tv show listings arranged various ways. Sorted by popularity, some of the shows in the top 50 have been cancelled and America's Next Top Model comes in at 177.
Because of profits we suffer.

I loved the first season of this show but the second season went a route I wasn't crazy about. We still watched it because the hubby still liked it. I think I saw this coming, though. Just wish they had been allowed to film and show a resolution show. I hate being left hanging.

Maybe producers should prepare for possible cancellations and have a resolution episode ready in case the series is cancelled. Apparently "The Last Resort" got informed of their cancellation with enough time to bring their series some small amount of closure.

Never liked this show. The characters were uninteresting, boring or both. Hope SyFy makes better use of the time period. Wish they would take on something like 666 Park Avenue or Secret Circle.

To Harold: And do you have insider info about what goes on? Those Nielsen ratings are not that spot on with ratings. As a viewer, do we have to go around telling everyone to watch this show or that show. I know that there are a bunch of people getting sick of these reality shows; I even watched some, but got tired of the same thing especially with the singing. What will the execs do then when they have driven their viewers away?
