The troubled musical series will not return.
May 10, 2013
NBC has cancelled Smash after two seasons. The musical drama has had its share of troubles since premiering as a mid-season replacement in February 2012. Shortly after being picked up for a second season, showrunner Theresa Rebeck announced that she would be stepping down at Season 1's end. After ratings for Season 2 plummeted, the network moved Smash to Saturday nights to burn off the remainder of its episodes.
The series finale of Smash will air on May 26, 2013.

NBC, in my opinion has once again made another programming error, cancelling SMASH is very wrong especially if you review their current line up of TV fare! SMASH while not one of the best was on its worst day better than many of the shows that were not cancelled. I am totally convinced that NBC really means NO BODY CARES!

I agree with all the other comments. I hope another network picks up the show. The actors really gave it their all. I will really miss it. I bought the soundtrack and plan on buying the dvds.

Smash is a level above most of what TV has to offer. It's a shame that NBC doesn't see the value in quality entertainment.

Smash, with its wonderful cast, was a great alternative to all the sports, sex reality, talk, talent, and blood and guts shows that have dominated the TV far too long. It is (was) the classiest program on television. I'm not sure how or where nbc gets its viewing stats, but I believe they are way off base. MILLIONS love the theatre, and everything that goes along with it. Most of nbc's lineup is a borish copy of what most of the other networks are spewing out to the public. nbc did not give Smash enough time to smooth out some of its bugs (like, in my opinion, incompetent editors who chopped up most of the scenes making it difficult to follow all the story lines - something I'm surprised Spielberg or any of his associates did not see). If the advertisers of the show did not pull their adds, why did nbc pull the show Of course the decision makers at nbc will think they know more than the general viewing public and put no value on the comments contained here. Now, with only a couple of exceptions, there is nothing to draw me to anything on nbc. To the entire cast of Smash....you are wonderfully talented entertainers...what a joy to watch all of you, especially the great Angelica Huston.

What a bummer, I still can't believe that NBC is canceling this great show. I love all the characters and music each episode is great! It's like watching a musical play on TV and a whole lot more! I just don't understand why they would take a great shoe off the air hope another network will be smart and pick it up!!

Really sad to hear that Smash was canceled, don't understand that NBC can't give it more time I love all the characters and music is so good, what a truly unique show, and what a bummer that the network can't see it!

I agree with the comments above. It is a great show and one of the few that are not a reality show. These kids are very talented and it is a whole other world to see on television. Bad choice to cancel the show! Who cares how many people watch it...do they not have enough money or something?

It is with great sadness that Smash is being cancelled. My daughter and I love not only the plot but all the songs that go with them With the non quality of tv shows today finally one came along that had depth and feeling I hope the show will be reconsidered and brought back to a better time slot I too am sorry for your decision.
