Cinemax gives an early renewal to its new drama.
July 10, 2014
Cinemax announced today that The Knick has been renewed for a second season. The early pickup comes a month ahead of the 20th century medical drama's premiere, which will be on August 8.
The freshman series follows the staff at Knickerbocker Hospital, who are on the forefront of the advances in medicine in the early 1900s. Acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh will direct the entire first and second seasons.

Loved it! So interesting to see the advances in medicine. My dad was a doctor and a morphine addict, so it is always interesting to me to see other doctors battle their demons. Very well acted and cast. I couldn't wait to get to the next episode and so happy it is renewed for season 2!! Can't wait!!

The Knick is currently the best show on tv. It's extremely well executed on all fronts. Can't wait for the next season.

Having seen the first episode now.. I'm left wondering.. was it simply renewed due to the names attached it it? The pilot certainly WAS NOT engaging, interesting, or compelling in ANY way. I suppose if you like watching the gory surgery from the 1900s or the racism which existed that may be of interest to some. But there's practically no substance here. I won't be watching anything more than the pilot and feel I wasted my time on even that.

All I'm saying is if you succumb to it all; you turn into the "Starz Network".

Or if you had just bothered to read the article you would have noticed that Soderbergh is slated to direct 2 seasons... its called "seizing the moment". Lets be honest "Banshee" is great (but not "good"), "Strike Back" is at its' wits END (Stapelton you are officially banned from conducting yourself physically in anything that constitutes as "extra curricular"). Take the above factors into account and you're better off left with a rhetorical question left unanswered.

.... in other words.... Cinemax Board Room "What do we have lined up for fall of 2015? What? Nothing? Well, hell... we might as well put another season of The Knick on even if it sucks. At least we'll have something to air."
