The Broadchurch remake will not return.
December 15, 2014
It is being reported that FOX has cancelled Gracepoint after its first season. The mystery drama, which is a remake of the U.K.'s Broadchurch, failed to find an audience on U.S. shores over the course of its 10-episode run.

My husband and I enjoyed this show, but like many of you we figured it was only going to be a one-case event. So not heartbroken that it was "cancelled". They tied up loose ends fairly well so I don't even know how they could have a second season. Huge David Tennant fans here as well. It's just too bad Fox didn't advertise it better so that more people would tune in. We are totally ok with mini-series that are only meant to last the one season. Hate when they do try to stretch them out into more than one. Loses its appeal and is almost never as good the second season as it was in the original.

Broadchurch was amazing and I'm so excited for the second season to start. I watched all of Gracepoint because I was curious how they were going to change it. Gracepoint was good, but it just was lacking something that the original British Broadchurch had. Really, I don't know why they even felt the need to make a U.S. version. At times it was almost a shot by shot remake. They didn't change much until the last few episodes. And even the killer is kind of not really different.

It was publicized as a 10-episode mystery event (aka a mini-series). I'm surprised they even bothered to "cancel" it. It finished its run. Series over.

I thought it was only supposed to be one season, so I watched it thinking the end of this season was final anyway. I liked it a lot, but no great loss for me.

Mystery/thriller type shows don't usually have much of a payoff. Didn't AMC do a show like this one a few years back? It didn't deliver on the ending, so I bet a lot of viewers were skittish on watching this one, me included. On Fox, there's always a threat that any episode could be it's last, and people don't have the time to waste on shows like that. I like the Netflix model where they release all the episodes at once. At least you know you'll get to see it all one way or another.

I also thought it was supposed to be only a one season, 10 episode run.

I'm a big fan of David Tennant, and I thought Broadchurch was tremendous. Read they were "remaking" it as Gracepoint with Tennant, but that the ending would be different. Watched Ep 1 -- decided I didn't need to watch the same show again. Maybe it got better, maybe more was different. I really didn't understand why they decided to remake a show that played in the U.S. anyway.
