The new comedy will not return for Season 2.
July 25, 2015
It is being reported that freshman series Happyish has been cancelled after its first season. The dark comedy premiered on Showtime in the spring to mixed reviews and lackluster viewership throughout its 10-episode run.
Happyish was originally to star Philip Seymour Hoffman, but the actor passed away shortly after the original pilot episode was filmed. The showrunners were forced back to the drawing board, re-casting the lead role and some of the other cast. Unfortunately the final product failed to resonate with audiences, cutting its time short after one season.

So tired if shows portraying family life as miserable and the only relief is sex, drugs and alcohol. How's writing this crap?

I hope they don't cancel the middle eastern version of the show .Jewish.

The problem with that Ragnarok is that Happyish was in development before Blackish. And the original pilot also was filmed before Blackish. Blackish ended up airing first because they had to redo the show after Hoffman died.
Now you can argue they should have renamed it before airing since Blackish did air first, but saying they copied the name is not correct.

Maybe it isn't grounds for a show to get canceled but it is grounds for me to root for such. The name they chose is a clear copy of Blackish and even if they came up with it before they knew Blackish was coming out, they had plenty of time to give it a different name. Shows change their name at the last minute all the time. Friends was originally going to be called "Insomnia Cafe". They decided it was a stupid name and went with the much simpler "Friends". This show should have done the same. We don't need two "ish" shows happening at the same time. As far as it being the dumbest thing you heard all day, the day is still young.

So because a show had a similar name as another that's grounds for it to be cancelled? That has to be the dumbest thing I've heard all day.

Yeah that was expected. I watched as I saw the potential, but kept waiting for it to get really good and it never did. Would have been interesting to see how it would have been different with Philip Seamore Hoffman.

Kind of saw that coming... the demographic this was aiming at was higher and there wasn't a great deal of actual comedy in it - dry or otherwise. People in this demographic deal with pretty much the same type of situations regularly (direct experiences here). There was no "twist" or "comedic license" to most of it. Really just a "day in the life of" without any real interest to the show. I watched merely be cause I'm in the demographic cna in a career field closely related. But really, it wasn't anything out of the norm for the most part. Coogan just isn't that funny or entertaining to carry a show. Hahn can be, but her character was just neurotic and angry.. not funny.

One of many shows I did not put the time in because I wanted to see if it would even get a Season 2. I know it's a counter productive approach, but I'm sick of getting excited about shows and they get canceled early.

Coming out with a show called Happyish right after a show called Blackish came out was a questionable decision. For that reason alone I am glad it got the axe. They should have called it something else.
