The drama will end after Season 3.
August 31, 2015
CBS announced today that Under the Dome will be coming to an end after its current third season. The sci-fi drama, which is based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, will soon conclude a successful run that saw it emerge as a breakout summer hit in 2013. While ratings did taper off each season, it remained as one TV's most-watched summer shows.
The series finale of Under the Dome will air on Thursday, September 10, with the network promising that the dome will come down and its mysterious origins will be revealed.

The first season was awesome and so was the second. I haven't seen the third. I'm getting tired of these networks cancelling shows due to poor ratings. They cancel them right when I get into them. Like off the map and the river. Shame on you

I'm really saddened by this. There are an increasingly smaller number of shows worth watching in the first place, and they keep canceling everything I actually like....
TV is getting more and more useless except to watch Blu Rays on and reruns off of netflix.

Not surprising. Season 3 has been a huge disappointment and was really getting tired...yet I somehow just had to keep watching to see how it would end.

honestly, this had to end. even if you're not going to follow the book, you can't go on forever. for the people who say the alien storyline is stupid.... did you not read the book?? unless you're Stephen king saying that it's dumb your opinion doesn't matter

Like others that started out as mini -series this got dragged into more seasons because the ratings were good.If something is supposed to be a mini-series it should be left at that as the following seasons always go downward.

I really liked this show til Season 3 started and then it turned into a real bad X-Files episode...it went to Pod People and went to far left to keep my interest...so BYE BYE

I had a feeling when this show first started that it would end up being another alien invasion story. I agree that the first season was good and I also liked last season. However, with this current season I am glad that it will be the last one since I think that we will at least get some answers to why the dome came down. To do a 4th season would be stretching it out too much

Yeah, this 3rd season lagged the same way shows like Lost or Heroes lagged when they reached 3rd season. I'm not sure if what was being shown was in Steven Kings book or if this was a writers turn. I do feel that Eric Le Salle had a great influence on it, which could help in it's demise. Anyway. I felt the show did well. Dean Norris continue to do a great job in making me hate him. I will not say CBS did terrible, but 3rd seasons are usually tough, especially in this king of genre. I would have still watched it if it was renewed. May be next time CBS.

It really did lag in interest this year. The first season when no one knew what the Dome was and why. Added a lot to the drama. Once they went the direction of the Government being involved and people escaping only to come back. The story went sideways. If they would have kept scenes like the cow being split into. The plane crashing into the Dome. Weather conditions and other things directly associated with the "Dome" and not so much human story telling about who's in love with who. This show maybe would have eked out another season. So really not much of a surprise. I'll make it through the rest of the season and won't really harbor any fond memories of what was or could have been.

As with 'Revolution' this show had massive potential, but unfortunately it all went 'pear shaped' within weeks of the show starting due to badly thought out story-lines
