June 27, 2016
SundanceTV announced today that Hap and Leonard has been renewed for a second season. The news broke this morning from star James Purefoy, who took to Twitter to confirm the Season 2 pickup.
The freshman drama with dark comedy elements, which is based on books by Joe R. Lansdale, premiered its six-episode debut season in March to positive reception from both critics and viewers.
There is no word yet on a timeframe for the show's return or the number of episodes planned, though another six in 2017 appears likely at this point.

This is a bit surprising. Mainly because the first season was so good, it had to be fodder for the idiot studio execs to send to the trash compactor.
I'll look forward to the second season, assuming the execs don't figure out they did something right for a change.
