The dramedy will not return for Season 5.
September 1, 2016
It is being reported that Lifetime had decided not to continue with Devious Maids, cancelling the veteran dramedy after four seasons. The news comes three weeks after the show's Season 4 finale, which aired on August 8, and leaves its season-ending cliffhanger unresolved.
Devious Maids was created by Marc Cherry, best known for bringing us Desperate Housewives, and followed a group of Latina maids who were employed to clean the homes of wealthy families in Beverly Hills, California. The show fared reasonably well for the network over most of its run, though viewership did steadily taper off with each season, reaching series-lows in Season 4 that were less than half of what it drew in its first couple of years on the air.
Being one of only two scripted series on Lifetime, Devious Maids' departure leaves just UnREAL, which will return in 2017 for its third season, currently left in that category.

Can't believe you cancelled one of the cleverest and most creative shows on all TV, not just Lifetime. Where's the petition to sign to keep this delightful show on the air? Want us to watch your channel? Keep pulling crap like this you won't have any viewers, not just low ratings.

As usual get rid of any show half way decent and keep the obnoxious ones on Dance Moms and Bring It. These channels are nothing but jokes.

@Truth, shows are usually wrapped weeks and even months before the season finale. They do not write a shows season finale with an expectation they will get cancelled. They write a SEASON finale, it is not their fault Lifetime as well asy other networks cancel shows with one or two episodes of the season left.
Lifetime should have gave them notice earlier, what exactly was it waiting for?!? They said they lost a lot of viewers, well perhaps Lifetime (like all the major networks, never take a show that was doing well on Sundays, move it to Mondays, see viewers are low....ummm easy SWITCH IT BACK TO SUNDAYS!!
Networks need to be careful for instance USA cancelled Covert Affairs, Graceland and an amazing new show complications (yet even though this show was doing well with viewers) USA thought they had some great shows in their places. They didnt and so USA was all the sudden stuck with no spring or summer show....so Motive (which was airing in Canada and was cancelled first by ABC the first year within four episodes, they uncalled it after some of their fall shows was not doing as well as they liked and since season 2 was already bejng filmed for Canada...ABC gave it another go, again cancelled i think after three episodes. Now Canada's main network cancelled Motive, just in time for USA who was freaking out they cancelled three great shows and didnt have anything new to air...so when they heard the news USA grabbed this crappy three times cancelled show!!! So now Motive has a season 3 being filmed through USA. So USA, TNT and A&E well wait even TBS could fight to grab "Devious Maids". Hopefully USA even if they pick up four to six new shows, they should pick up "Devious Maids" because it WILL PULL MORE VIEWERS THAN MOTIVE.
I guarantee unless USA has Suits execs saying they will be ending Suits this coming season, that Motive will be cancelled.
Now A&E could take Devious Maids but if they do NO advertising like what they did with Unforgettable (Which CBS messed this up by cancelling even though it had amazing numbers, so CBS regretted doing so when their new fall lineup was failing, so they uncalled it, showed season 2 in the Summer (wasnt the normal season for the show) then after showing a few episodes that were available, they then decided to love it to Fridays after waiting a WHOLE year from Season 2's summertime show, so ab ACTUAL year, didnt advertise that much and placed it as a Friday night show (it was doing good) then a show they didnt want to cancel was placed in Unforgettables timeslot on Friday and so they moved it after winter break about two more episodes aired on Friday and then immediately moved it to Sundays with little notice. Well it was competing with two shows that were doing very well (Revenge and NBC had something) so cancelled by CBS for the second time this time for good. So waited a whole year to run the second half of season 2 then cancelled it. A&E picked it up and i believe it was on Thursdays (no big advertising when it was going to start or that it was coming to A&E). So not so many viewers, then they picked up but not in time of A&E moving it to Fridays without much advertising. Also it was march madness time so fridays was AFTER march madness. So i believe the extra loss in viewers was due to not knowing where it was, so by the time the viewers were smart enough to catch on, it was already told to wrap it up and at least ended with notice so no cliff hangers.

WTH, I love this show. At least give us one last season or a closing episode!
It never ceases to amaze me how a channel cuts shows without checking with its fans.

I'm so through with Lifetime! I cannot believe they cancelled Devious Maids. It is such a great show & all the actresses & actors were so good, I will miss them & I wish them the best...they deserve it. How can you keep "Unreal" & cancel Devious Maids??? I will not watch Lifetime anymore.
