The AMC drama will end in 2017.
October 10, 2016
AMC announced today that an end has been set for Halt and Catch Fire. The cable network has renewed the acclaimed drama for what will be its fourth and final season.
10 episodes have been ordered to conclude the 1980s-set series, which follows the rise of the personal computer after the reverse-engineering of IBM's PC. Creators Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers will continue their writing and showrunner duties through to the series finale.
“We've been incredibly fortunate to have a creative partner in AMC that has nurtured us from new writers into showrunners over these past three seasons,” the duo said in a released statement. “In this fourth and final season, we are excited to end the show on its own terms and to give our story, these characters, and our fans the conclusion they so richly deserve.”
Halt and Catch Fire will wrap up its third season tomorrow night with back-to-back episodes. Look for Season 4 in 2017.

Why oh why would they want to put a stop to this show? According to Wikipedia, the first two seasons received positive reviews but the third season received critical acclaim with a score of 83 out of 100 w/ 12 reviews and a 95% rating from Rotten Tomatoes. The reason that AMC gave just doesn't answer 'why.' :(

Great news !!! I really want to see how this show ends. Very good show. Other networks could learn from AMC that ratings are not everything. Having a monster like The Walking Dead allows AMC to take chances with lesser rated shows like Halt , Hell on wheels , etc. Kudos to AMC !!!

Well at least we get a final season. This is a very well written and acted show about the rise of a computer tech company. It's good and it's good to have a show that is taking place in the past.

I'm so glad they're giving us one more. At least we get to say goodbye properly.
