No back order for the Hayley Atwell drama.
November 9, 2016
Things are not looking good for Conviction, the new legal drama starring Hayley Atwell. ABC has decided not to move forward with any additional episodes on top of its initial order of 13, leaving little hope for a second season.
The freshman series premiered in early October, with Atwell back in a starring role just months after the cancellation of Marvel's Agent Carter, this time playing the former First Daughter of the United States who heads up a team that investigates cases of possible wrongful conviction.
The show has failed to generate much buzz among viewers, though, with ratings being soft through its first five episodes. Less-than-glowing reviews also haven't helped its case. For the time being, all 13 ordered episodes are scheduled to make it to air, though it's unclear if its 10:00pm Monday time slot is secure past November 14.
The network is retaining Conviction's cast options for now, leaving the door open - however slightly - for the show to return, though it should be noted that when a new series doesn't receive an order for additional episodes, there isn't typically a Season 2.

Enjoy this show, has some depth, characters not "cardboard", not a casual watch while you check your email sort of thing, which probably explains why its in trouble.

I liked the show and thought the idea or concept was pretty good. Not just a run of the mill Lawyer show. The one problem I saw was the writers played up the "I am the Presidents Daughter, I could care less what everyone thinks and am going to just phone in my job" angle WAY too much. It worked for the first few episodes but after that, she should have been written in as more hands oin and involved with her team. They could have retouched the subject every 2-3 episodes to remind the viewer but devoting 20% or more of every episode to this was a mistake and cost them viewers.

It seems that if it's not a Shondaland product it gets no leverage on ABC. That's really a shame. Two shows now that could have been good for the network but don't have the chance to are done.

"stabs viewers in the back" -- That's HILARIOUS! As is these businesses owe you ANYTHING :) They are in business to make money, not cater to your desires. It's not their fault you happen to be one of a few people that like something which is underperforming. Perhaps it's your taste that's bad, not the network.

Good.
The main character was a predatory rapist -- a professor who'd slept with multiple students. If this were a male character, there'd be torches and pitchforks.

Again ABC stabs it's viewers in the back. Big Surprise!! This isn't your typical legal procedural. They walk you through the murder or whatever, they sow you the forensics being played out and they also show you the options they come up with. The writers make you think and the optics are great. Atwell is carrying the lead with strength. I knew it wouldn't last because I wasn't seeing the promo that the crap shows like HTGAWM and that bedroom trash Grey's get. I'm finished with ABC, if they ever do put a show on again that's different I won't know because I no longer have A always B being C canceled as an option on my remote.
