The Ryan Phillippe drama will return for Season 2.
December 19, 2016
It was announced today that Shooter has been renewed by USA Network for a second season. The sniper drama is currently five episodes into its run, which finally premiered last month after suffering from multiple delays.
The series had originally been slated for a mid-July premiere but was initially pushed two weeks after the tragic real-life shootings in Dallas, Texas. But after more attacks occurred, this time in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and France, the cable network scrapped Shooter's summer release plans altogether, opting to focus instead on a premiere in the fall.
Now that the Ryan Phillippe-starring drama if finally underway it has managed to put up solid numbers on Tuesday nights, averaging 2.6 million viewers in Live+7 viewing. That ranks it as the network's #1 new series in 2016, making the Season 2 pickup a no-brainer.
Based on the novel Point of Impact and the 2007 film of the same name, Shooter follows the life of Bob Lee Swagger, an expert marksman trained in counter intelligence who is now living in exile. After learning of a plot to kill the president, the highly-decorated sniper re-emerges for duty, only to learn he has been double-crossed in an operation that has ties to his past.
Look for Season 2 of Shooter in 2017.

I'm really loving this show. Yes, there are a lot of plot similarities from the film, but I don't mind because the film was pretty good too. What I *love* is that FINALLY a tv show is getting a lot of gun/survival related tropes correct for once. For example: when he steals a car he finds older models without keyless entry and usually starts it via hacked ignition rather than randomly pulling a couple giant pre-cut wires from under the dash and magically hooking them together. Also in the previews It shows him setting a propane tank on fire *before* shooting it! I've never, ever seen a program get that right. People don't realize that it's basically impossible to blow up propane tanks with just a regular bullet but on 99% of tv every time someone shoots one it explodes like 50lbs of freaking napalm. Yes, there have been some mistakes too, mostly on the computer/internet side of things, but it's still really really nice to see show runners making an effort to be more accurate. The only other show I've seen that puts in that kind of work is Mr. Robot.

Blind man can't read? THE SUBJECT IS THAT IT HAS BEEN RENEWED FOR SEASON TWO. No wonders he "want[s] to read the book." Perhaps an audio book?

Seriously, as if they can not come up with original story lines, they have to take from the wahlberg movie. Uggh, after the first three episodes I wanted to go read a book. Facepalms, I do NOT see this lasting past the first season. If it does, just wow on the integrity level of the viewers.

I presume you mean that the sole plot is that of a fugitive and how long can that carry the show?
Good point. I remember when Prison Break started and I wondered how a prison break could last more than one season. Well they broke out and the series went on for years - and is coming back again!
So I would say, Ryan Phillippe clears himself and then some all new war to fight just happens. What I dread is that they overdo the plot-line and have Phillippe against the entire corrupt government and more - that conspiracy plotline has been beaten to a thousand deaths.

There is absolutely nothing original about this show. Nevertheless, I like our No Shoot Absence of Malice Fugitive Hulk Magnum Force Catch Him You Can't Shooter. My soft spot.
