No Season 4 for the troubled drama.

It is being reported that USA Network has cancelled Shooter after three seasons. The Ryan Phillippe drama, currently airing new episodes on Thursday nights, will air its series finale on September 13.
It has been an interesting, but not unsuccessful, run for the series, which faced its share of setbacks over the course of its time on the air. Issues first arose even before its debut episode, originally scheduled for the summer of 2016, when tragic real-life shootings delayed its summer release plans twice, resulting in an eventual fall premiere. Then in its second season, Phillippe broke his leg in an off-set mishap in the midst of production, resulting in the season being capped at eight episodes rather than its original order of 10.
The show proved that it could weather adversity, though, as it went on to become the cable network's top new series in 2016. Its solid performance continued with another solid run in Season 2, resulting in a 13-episode order for Season 3, making it the show's longest season yet. Its momentum could not be sustained, however, with ratings taking a substantial hit this time around. That resulted in it becoming USA's lowest-rated drama in the 18-49 demographic, making a Season 4 impossible.
Based on novels by Stephen Hunter and the 2007 film of the same name, Shooter follows the life of Bob Lee Swagger, an expert marksman trained in counter intelligence who is now living in exile. After learning of a plot to kill the president, the highly-decorated sniper re-emerges for duty, only to learn he has been double-crossed in an operation that has ties to his past.

Just a heads up for some people here.
Shooter was not "at its end" as some of you claim.
The series is based on a book series that consists of 10 books so far.
Seasons 1 & 2 were adaptations of the first book titled 'Point of Impact', and Season 3 was an adaptation of the second book titled "Black Light".
There are 8 more books they can adapt. No shortage of ideas. Just bad ratings unfortunately. This was a great show and I'm sad to see it go.

I agree. Shooter was at it's end. I'm happy they tied up all loose ends. I would love to see a spin-off titled Atlas with the new team.

Season 3-the plot is good but could have been done better. These last few episodes have been better than the first 7-8 this year. Unfortunately, the genre of all spy-military books, movies and shows these days are conspiracies of high-level Americans rather than the real enemies -terrorists, foreign dictatorships, global conspiracies, etc. Every novel I read now is about some fictitious conspiracy of insiders who amazingly have military resources, mercenaries, etc. which is not real, but what is real is the terrorists and foreign countries who do have real enemy armies. Writing is bad.

I hate watch this show. I agree that season one was pretty good but I think that Bobby Lee seems to be the bad guy. How can he leave his family and go on to make bad and selfish decisions. He puts his wife and daughter in danger and doesn't seem to care. I think those are things villains do. He also goes around beating up people and using his friends also putting them in danger. Who needs bad guys when you have Bobby Lee?

Yeah sure... same old, same old. Liked S1 and S2.. S3 is on the DVR.
This p####s me off. People wank that 'the show probably had to go' but the reality is the short-term expectations and constant threat of getting canceled before developing any story means the story ends up not being as good as it could be - and then inevitably the morons of tv land just switch to some episodic piece of trash and the show gets bounced.
I am done with TV.. at this point I'll wait until 3-4 seasons are queued, torrent them and watch only if the reviews are decent. Screw the system.. I am done with it.

It would have helped if I even knew it was on for S3.

I do enjoy the show, and wish it could be salvaged. The writing in this last season has run the show into the barditch. There are simply too many fires taking place at the same time. If you are going to tell a continuing story, stop making it so complicated. I want to be entertained, not handed a damn complicated word puzzle seven days after I was shown the questions.

Season 1 was great and it should have ended here. Season 2 felt weird and convoluted. No direction. Season 3 is unwatchable.

USA does not create or not create endings. If the creators of the show don't give us an ending then it is up to them to finance one. They had no guarantee. I am surprised it made it this far however.
