The Judd Hirsch comedy will return for Season 2.
March 23, 2017
CBS announced today that Superior Donuts has been renewed for a second season. The freshman comedy, which premiered last month as a midseason entry, has been a solid addition to the network's Monday night lineup through its first eight episodes.
Superior Donuts stars Judd Hirsch as an old-school owner of a Chicago donut shop that hasn't changed since it first opened in 1969. And as his shop has stayed frozen in time, the neighborhood around it is changing. But now starting to fall on hard times, he starts to let his enterprising young employee help bring his business into the 21st century.
Look for the show to return in the 2017-2018 season, though it is not clear yet if CBS will keep it as a midseason entry or move it to its regular fall lineup.

Maybe now that it has a little bit of a future, they'll spend some money to make it look like a network show set in a donut shop, and not a community theatre play set in a donut shop.

This show is great! It's like "Cheers" set in a donut shop. Glad to see it got renewed.

This one is a good surprise to me. It's not hilarious, but still quite funny and it didn't a bad episode yet (as opposed to, let's say, Kevin Can Wait which is awful every other week).

I thought it looked kinda like a fun new idea before it started, but now I'm pretty bored with it. I never liked shows where the entire thing takes place basically in one room. it just gets boring too quickly to watch people do nothing but sit around talking.

Why?

I always dislike these "sitcoms that preach" - I mean, I don't find them terribly funny and often am annoyed at the condescending tone they convey. I do like Hirsh and Fowler.. just wish the writing was better and not so "after school special" which is why I just can't watch this. Congrats to those that like this... but it's not for me and I'm kind of surprised it got renewed.
