After weeks of speculation, it is now official - Netflix has renewed 13 Reasons Why for a second season. The good news broke this morning from Selena Gomez, who serves as one of the show's executive producers. The pop superstar took to her Instagram page this morning to announce the pickup to her 119 million followers.
The freshman drama premiered in late March with a lot of buzz attached thanks to the involvement Gomez, who was vocal of her passion for the project. With a high amount of attention on social media and critics giving it a healthy amount of praise, it didn't take long for fans to start calling for the show to continue.
Adapted from the bestselling 2007 novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, the series is about the story behind a teenage girl named Hannah who takes her own life. In the weeks following her shocking death, one of her classmates finds a box on his porch that contains recordings Hannah made explaining the 13 reasons why she decided to commit suicide.
The streaming service has ordered 13 new episodes of 13 Reasons Why for its sophomore season, which is expected to premiere in 2018. The new season is said to focus on the difficult and complicated process the show's characters will go through as they heal and recover.

This was obviously a very sad show and there was lots of controversy over it and if there should even be a 2nd Season..after watching it myself I immediately discredited anyone claiming the show made a mockery of suicicde it most certainly DID NOT! This show needed to be made and hopefully it will alert parents/friends to those children you may feel are on the verge and that they may get help before it's too late! This show also displayed some early warning signs to loook for that many may not have been aware of and that can exist early on! As far as a Season 2 there is still so much story left to be told and I want to find out if Alex survives his self inflicted gunshot wound, and how many other characters will now move on after all of the revelations by the Season 1 finale! This is the best news I've heard all day HOORAY FOR SEASON 2!!!

My teenage grandson said it was really good so I watched the entire season in a few sittings. I found it compelling, thought provoking and insightful. It is amazing how one action from someone causes so many consequences to a circle of different people...the ripple effect and how those actions are perceived differently by each individual. It is a known fact that two siblings can see an incident together and totally perceive it differently. Suicide is a senseless way to die because "nothing stays the same forever" and it will get better, but to those who are in so much pain they cannot always see the light at the end of the tunnel. For those that have written comments, your perception of the show is your perception. Hopefully some of the people that wrote comments will think about their actions and how they affect others or then maybe not if they did not understand the complexity of the show.

Jon - teen suicide isn't garbage and no one forced you to watch a show which pretty much goes to anyone who leaves negative comments about it.

and they still have unanswered questions to continue with a second season. I don't understand how they can continue the show for much longer after that unless they decide each season should be another persons "13 reasons why"
Either way it is a good show for people that actually have feelings.
