After weeks of speculation, it is now official - Netflix has renewed 13 Reasons Why for a second season. The good news broke this morning from Selena Gomez, who serves as one of the show's executive producers. The pop superstar took to her Instagram page this morning to announce the pickup to her 119 million followers.

The freshman drama premiered in late March with a lot of buzz attached thanks to the involvement Gomez, who was vocal of her passion for the project. With a high amount of attention on social media and critics giving it a healthy amount of praise, it didn't take long for fans to start calling for the show to continue.

Adapted from the bestselling 2007 novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, the series is about the story behind a teenage girl named Hannah who takes her own life. In the weeks following her shocking death, one of her classmates finds a box on his porch that contains recordings Hannah made explaining the 13 reasons why she decided to commit suicide.

The streaming service has ordered 13 new episodes of 13 Reasons Why for its sophomore season, which is expected to premiere in 2018. The new season is said to focus on the difficult and complicated process the show's characters will go through as they heal and recover.
