The office comedy will return for Season 2.
May 12, 2017
NBC has renewed Great News for a second season. The freshman comedy, which includes Tina Fey as one of its executive producers, premiered just last month as a mid-season entry and is currently six episodes into its run. Ratings so far have been modest at best, though critical reception has been mostly positive.
Currently airing new episodes Tuesday nights, the series follows an up-and-coming news producer who learns that her overbearing mother has decided to rejoin the workforce as an intern at her TV station. Though not overly excited about this turn events, there ends up being some benefits to having her biggest supporter by her side.

Trial & Error was great. I thought awesome at first. .a new show with same time slot. Not even close. Great News only had 2 characters (the old news guy and Portia) that I liked, and of course they didn't have as many lines. The daughter, THE MOTHER, the British guy were so annoying. If they take out the mother then ok. But I could do without this show unless the whole storyline changes. The overbearing mother thing at 30....not relatable or funny at all.

Agree with Justin G. The mother is the most irritating person ever on a TV series. I quit watching after 3 episodes. And the daughter is so whipped, it's no wonder she never gets lead stories to cover. I'm not a fan, and I think the series got renewed simply because NBC didn't have a replacement for it.

They did reverse the Timeless decision so we can all have hope they get this one right soon.

I'm glad that this got renewed for the people that enjoy it, but after the first 7 or 8 minutes of the show, I wanted to gouge my eyes out with a spatula.

Surprising. This is basically just "Working the Engles" with a more recognizable US cast. The Slapstick of Martin seems very out of place in most scenes. I pegged this for a very short one-season only run. But oh well. Guess some like it.

YES!
Funniest show this year with such great cast and chemistry. Good job (for once) NBC.

That's fantastic to hear! I did not think it had much of chance to survive given that NBC aired 2 episodes per week, but I'm glad we'll be able to enjoy "Great News" in the near future.

I don't get network logic anymore. The axe falls on good shows that people love but crap like this gets picked up? This is one reason why so many people tune into cable shows or straight to Netflix,Hulu, & Amazon, especially when theses said channels pick up shows that NBC,CBS, & ABC drop.

Have to say, I'm super surprised this got renewed. I thought it was just going to be a burnoff series to fill the gap between NBC's other shows starting. Nevertheless, I'm am enjoying the show. It's nothing to write home about, but it's cute and has potential.
