The detective drama will return in 2017-2018.

It's better late than never for Elementary. It is being reported that CBS has renewed the veteran drama for a sixth season. There had been speculation the network might be ending the series after it was left out of renewal talks back in March.
While its ratings have dipped in recent years, Elementary has been an overall reliable entry in the network's Sunday night lineup. The fact that it is wholly owned by CBS likely helped secure its pickup for the 2017-2018 season, as it is said to continue to do well financially.

Awesome!! Now if they would do something about the time slot. It's always preempted for football. I have my DVR set to record it with an 1.5 extra. Ridiculous.

Good news for Elementary. I have enjoyed watching the last almost complete 5 seasons. This show though needs to move to another night. Too much competition on Sunday night. It has hurt their ratings big time.

I'm a fan, but I watch now mostly to see the quirky interaction between Holmes and Watson and less to see the cases which sometimes get convoluted with bucketloads of facts and names.
Many times a solution seems to appear out of nowhere and suddenly wrapped up neatly in the last few minutes.
One major complaint I have is that gangster Shinwell (right spelling?) storyline. Bland, boring and a complete waste of time!

Glad to hear it's returning. This show is in such a hard time slot because CBS often has some kind of sports coverage on Sunday afternoons that runs over its scheduled time and causes delays for all of the prime time shows. Since so many people record shows on their DVR to view later, this often leaves us with only partial recordings. It wouldn't be a big deal except that now CBS is charging a supscription fee to watch their shows on demand. This is total BS since we already pay a ton of money for access to their shows (that used to be free w/ an antennae) through our cable/satellite bills. CBS doesn't have enough shows or original content to justify another fee like Netflix and Hulu.
