The hit zombie drama will return with a new showrunner.

AMC announced today that The Walking Dead has been renewed for a ninth season. The good news comes during the show's winter break as fans await its return to see how the death of an original character will play out after they were bitten in last month's mid-season finale.
The post-apocalyptic zombie drama has continued rank as one of TV's top scripted series, though some plot elements in recent seasons have resulted in its audience numbers dropping off from the highs it experienced a few years back. Viewership in the current season is the lowest it has been since Season 2, though its average of over 8 million viewers per episode is still considered quite healthy.
A change in showrunner is being made for Season 9, as longtime writer Angela Kang will take over for Scott M. Gimple, who has been at the helm of the show for the past five seasons. Gimple will still be involved with series though, as he is taking the role of Chief Content Officer, overseeing both The Walking Dead and its spin-off Fear The Walking Dead.
Look for Season 9 of The Walking Dead this fall. For now, Season 8 is set to resume the back-half of its run on February 25.

The Walking Dead are the characters that are still alive, Rick realised this back in season 1 when Noah Emmerich told him that everybody already had the virus (or whatever it is) and will turn when dead without being bitten

I’m a fan but it’s getting rough justifying watching. Show has lost too many of its main characters and is very choppy with all the episodes where they only focus on a few characters. I don’t understand why the big execs can’t figure out why the ratings dropped. Choppy shows + killing main characters = less viewers.

This show has gotten into a kind of rut. It's all about how to kill the core characters off one by one for maximal ratings.
At some point the walkers should have fallen apart. If nothing else, there's nobody and nothing for them to eat (the number of humans actually being too tiny to support the millions of walkers) and yet they keep going on like energizer bunnies. At some point there would be nothing left on store shelves to raid, and yet there's very little farming going on because the humans are still warring with each other. Mass starvation of the humans would have happened by now. But of course there's no ratings in that.
It was fun, but now it's getting tedious.

I still watch but am getting very tired of rick, michonne, and some of the others. time to move onto different characters taking point or rap it up.

I’ve never missed an episode of this show and will watch it til the end but I’m not sure why it’s still called walking dead when there are little to no zombies anymore.
