The origin drama will conclude in 2019.
May 13, 2018
Fox announced today that Batman prequel Gotham has been renewed for a fifth and final season. The DC Comics-based drama, which follows the beginnings of the infamous city and all of its villains, has been a solid performer for the network over the course of its run.
In Season 4, viewers started seeing a young Bruce Wayne masquerading as a masked vigilante to fight crime in the city. The final season of the origin story will further follow his transformation into the caped crusader.
While each of the show's previous seasons has been 22 episodes in length, it is being reported that a shorter 13-episode run is being considered to conclude the series. Look for the final chapter of Gotham to premiere during the 2018-2019 season, likely as a mid-season entry.

It was getting to the point where it's a case of, "where do we go from here". Apart from recasting all new actors/actresses to play the grown up versions of the super heroes/villains and having a chance at a cross over with the likes of Arrow or Flash or Supergirl. I can't see anyway forward for this series without it being dragged through the mud along with its ratings.

This is what happens when a studio doesn't have the right to use actual characters, only likeness. Great show well written but just like Smallville you'll never see the true hero.

I thought it would stink, but watched it because nothing else was on. It's one of my favorite shows now. At least they did not "Lucifer" it.

It's a good show but I never rush to watch it. I think I'm at least 15 episodes in arrears. I'm glad it will have a proper wrapup. Since it was a prequel, it can't come back from the dead like nearly all of the cast.

Happy it will at least be concluded! Would've loved to see it go on longer but can't be disappointed in a proper ending

Vern - There was a 1-2 hit at Fox which started the massacre. First they aquired the rights to Thursday Night Football and Last Man Standing which means 30+ hours of programing needed to be dropped. Also, with the pending aquisition by Disney (the owner of Marvel) its only logical DC holdings like Batman and Lucifer would be eventually cut. Personally I find it interesting that theyre giving Gotham (2.1m veiwers) an ending, but letting Lucifer (4.1m) end on a cliffhanger....
