The buddy cop drama will return in 2018-2019.
May 13, 2018
Fox announced today that Lethal Weapon will be coming back for a third season. While the action drama remains a solid ratings draw, its future had been in doubt in recent weeks after star Clayne Crawford was fired over multiple alleged on-set incidents.
Today's renewal comes along with the announcement of Crawford's replacement, as Seann William Scott will be stepping in to play the part of a new character to partner with Damon Wayans' Roger Murtaugh. The role will be Scott's first as a regular in a television series. The actor is perhaps best-known for his roles as Stifler in the American Pie movies and Chester in Dude, Where's My Car?
Based on the movie franchise of the same name, Lethal Weapon follows two Los Angeles cops as they team up to fight crime in the city of angels. Look for the show to return this fall as part of Fox's 2018-2019 lineup.

I'm annoyed that Crawford was fired. I really despise when a show brings in new characters when it's already been running for a couple of seasons. I thought Clayne as Riggs was great and I'm sorry to see him go.

I'm also disappointed that Clayne won't be returning as RIggs--loved his character and loved Damon's character--whether you liked Clayne or not, you have to admit the two of them had great on-screen chemistry. I need to catch up on the last two episodes, although I inadvertently read a spoiler alert about what happens to Clayne's character, but I won't share that here. I have always been a big fan of this newish show and will continue to watch it with "stiffler." I would like to see Clayne in other shows though--hope he gets more gigs.

For those of you how are asking what happened to Clayne...Do any of you know how to read? Did you not read the reports on how his behavior was on set and that Damon would not even speak to him anymore?
Listen did he play a good role yes, but it doesn't make up for being an a$$hole on set and acting like your better than others. It happens and it gets to some people. So don't watch Fox doesn't care about those that would rather have a horrible chemistry on set rather than a good chemistry on the show. The reason it didn't seem bad...it's called editing.

I don't think Scott's going to be able to fill Clayne's shoes. The show probably won't make it past the Fall season.

I bet most of you morons who are commenting are white thinking the reason this show was good because of clayne. The guy was a hot head and I’m glad he is gone. Damon Waynes is a legend and this fool was a nobody. Don’t watch the show then fake fans.

I guess I am in the minority here but I never liked Clayne as Riggs and wanted to get some scissors and do something with that hair! But I liked the show and kept watching. I'll be interested to see whether Riggs is dead or makes it back to Texas and what the new guy brings to the show.

I will give the show a chance with the addition. I like Scott, but will I get past him being "Stiffler"?????

they are bringing in scott to play riggs' brother ? if they had just clipped the ending of the last episode, let riggs go back to texas, maybe I would have more interest going forward. PS I don't remember riggs having a brother in any of the flashbacks. sounds lame, but we will see. keeping expectations very low. a former fan.

One of my favorite newish shows on today sad and good news. Hope they just write Riggs off as having moved to Texas with molly and the kid. Seann William Scott gives me a reason to at least check out season 3 before they cancel it.

I was heartbroken to find out Clayne was an issue on set, kind of like finding out Castle and Beckett hated each other on Castle. Just ruins it all.
Like many are expressing here, Clayne as Riggs was by far my favorite part of the show. I'm unlikely to give the show another shot. I understand why they're going to continue if they think it will be good to them financially, but I kind of wish they'd let this die with Riggs.
