The buddy cop drama will return in 2018-2019.
May 13, 2018
Fox announced today that Lethal Weapon will be coming back for a third season. While the action drama remains a solid ratings draw, its future had been in doubt in recent weeks after star Clayne Crawford was fired over multiple alleged on-set incidents.
Today's renewal comes along with the announcement of Crawford's replacement, as Seann William Scott will be stepping in to play the part of a new character to partner with Damon Wayans' Roger Murtaugh. The role will be Scott's first as a regular in a television series. The actor is perhaps best-known for his roles as Stifler in the American Pie movies and Chester in Dude, Where's My Car?
Based on the movie franchise of the same name, Lethal Weapon follows two Los Angeles cops as they team up to fight crime in the city of angels. Look for the show to return this fall as part of Fox's 2018-2019 lineup.

And I’m officially done with the show. Clayne was the best part of the show and there is no way Stifler will be able to fill that hole. Fox made a lot of really bad moves this season

While I enjoyed watching Clayton as Riggs, I was beginning to feel a little weary of his chronic alcoholism and constant self-pity. Regardless, yes, he was an incredible Riggs and it will be hard to replace him. I do like Sean William Scottand though and will be interested to see what role he plays and how well the chemistry is with Wayans. I only wish everyone will give him a chance rather than just write the show off with judgments of Clayton’s exit. No one really knows the full truth of what happened and speculation only creates more judgments and possible erroneous arguments. Nevertheless, I personally look forward to the addition of Scott and wish Clayton the best as he is an incredible actor.

I'm really disappointed that Clayne Crawford isn't returning, he was perfect for the role of Riggs. That being said, Damon Wayans has always been the shining star of the show, and I am also inexplicably a big fan of Seann William Scott. So I will be approaching this with cautious optimism.

Even with Clayne (and what exactly did he do to get fired), the show is over the top silly. I’m almost caught up watching and I had hoped it woukd break out of its doldrums. If anything, it has become even more of a kid show but with stoned material not appropriate for kids. So Clayne doesn’t matter.
