The CW announced today that Dynasty has been renewed for a third season. The soap opera, which is currently in the midst of its sophomore run, is one of the lower-rated prime time dramas on broadcast television.

The series premiered in 2017 as a reboot of the popular 1980s soap of the same name. But name recognition didn't do much to help its fortunes, as it under-performed during its freshman outing. Still, the network surprisingly ordered a second season of the show, possibly in-part because of its deal to air on Netflix and its interest worldwide. Today's pickup continues that trend, with TV ratings seemingly not factored into The CW's decision.

Dynasty follows the rivalry between two upper-crust American families. Fallon Carrington is a cunning young woman on the rise who discovers that her billionaire father is engaged to a younger rival employee at their global energy empire. Not wanting an outsider intruding on her family's dynasty, Fallon becomes allies with her father's nemesis as part of a move to strike out on her own.
