The CW announced today that Dynasty has been renewed for a second season. The prime time soap opera is one of two new dramas ordered by the network for the 2017-2018 season.

The pickup is a bit of a surprise, as the show has struggled to find an audience during its freshman run. Last month it was moved from Wednesday nights to Fridays, where it will remain through to the end of the season. It appears likely to remain in that time slot for Season 2.

Rebooted from the 1980s soap opera of the same name, Dynasty follows the rivalry between two upper-crust American families. Fallon Carrington is a cunning young woman on the rise who discovers that her billionaire father is engaged to a younger rival employee at their global energy empire. Not wanting an outsider intruding on her family's dynasty, Fallon becomes allies with her father's nemesis as part of a move to strike out on her own.
