No Season 2 for the 70s-set comedy.
May 10, 2019
It is being reported that ABC has cancelled The Kids Are Alright after just one season. The move is a bit of a surprise, as the comedy was a fairly decent performer during its run.
A latecomer to the 2018-2019 season with a mid-October premiere, the sitcom got off to a solid start, ranking as one of the fall's top new comedies. Just three weeks into its run, the network ordered additional episodes to bring its total to 23 - a full season's worth. Viewership has started to taper off over the latter half the season, however.
The Kids Are Alright follows a traditional 1970s working-class Irish-Catholic family. Parents Mike and Peggy are raising eight boys who spend most of their days with little to no supervision. With a total of 10 people under one roof sharing three bedrooms and one bathroom, it ends up being everyone for themselves.

Noooooooo, this was my favorite new comedy of the year! It's so clever and Mary McCormack plays her character SO well!!! What a terrible mistake ABC.

WHY WHY WHY? This is easily the funniest show on TV right now. Instead you keep the crap no one has any interest in. All of the comedy shows that are worth watching are being cancelled.. this, Speechless, The Cool Kids... I just dont understand WHO you are polling for numbers but there's a serious leak in your system and you're cancelling some of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time. This show takes me back to my childhood. Its easy to follow and laugh, wondering if my own parents were as devious with US as we were growing up. I love how its from the parents perspective, and how each child, true in real life, are completely different personalities, yet each one shines in their own characters. Its a complete shame to lose this show. Its one of the first ones I watch when I watch my DVR'd programs. It makes me laugh out loud even when I'm alone. This makes me sad and angry at the same time. I sincerely hope another network will pick this one up, its worth it. Please dont cancel! I agree with Jacob's comment, in congratulating ABC on their continuing tradition of idiocy cancelling THE BEST shows on the network. Good call. Keep losing your viewing audience. Let us know how that works out for you. Just sad.

Why? Explain to me why you would cancel such a funny and clever show??? ABC renews Schooled? But they cancel this show? Such bright minds working at ABC!

What a disappointment to read that ABC has cancelled such a clever, FUNNY show! I would watch this show and actually laugh out loud! All the characters were funny, had their niche, and interacted so well!
Please, PLEASE someone pick up this show!

Best new comedy on TV! Excellent acting and writing. As usual, they don’t give the shows a chance to build up an audience. It aired during same time slot as NCIS, and that’s the same age demographic that would find it funny. Bad decision ABC. As usual.

This really makes me angry. Such a fantastic show! But the crap shows always get renewed (The Bachelor, anyone?)

Of course it got cancelled, it didn't have violence, sex or homosexuality, and most importantly it wasn't liberal or political for that mater, just a family trying to make it. Those were the good old days.

This is just sad. Love this family and how they interact. Say it isn't so!
