No Season 2 for the counterintelligence thriller.
May 30, 2019
It is being reported that The Enemy Within has been cancelled after its first season. The thriller premiered in February for a 13-episode run that concluded with its now-series finale on May 20.
The show got off to a decent start in the ratings over its first few episodes, but viewers seemed to lose interest as the weeks wore on. Reception from critics was generally mixed, with no real glowing praise to garner additional buzz.
The Enemy Within followed brilliant former CIA operative Erica Shepherd, who became known as the most notorious traitor in American history after betraying her country. While serving a life sentence in a Supermax prison, Erica is contacted by FBI Agent Will Keaton, who has reluctantly turned to her for help in tracking down a dangerous criminal.

Honestly, the show wasn't very good. Most of the acting was below average, and a lot of the time, things were forced and/or predictable. That being said, I watched the whole season because the idea was a good one, it had potential, and I was really hoping it would get better.

I thought the show was worthwhile.

Thanks for the relevant info @Khelben. So those who watched it to the end can be thankful that the original storyline had an end. I don’t know if this is the rule or the exception. I haven’t deleted the remaining episodes that I haven’t yet watched, but it’s more than half, so I still will. If it was only two or three, I would see it to its end.

All I can say is that I am sick with NBC. I loved ENEMY WITHIN and they are taking it away. I am so sick of networks giving us one season or a partial season of a show and just cancelling it without giving it at least a second or even a third season. I mean NBC Not only cancelled this show, they also cancelled The Village and, Abby’s. Both of them didn’t get a full season nor a second season chance. I am giving up hope on NBC!!!!

But Enemy Within doesn't need a 2 h movie to end the story, it already has an ending! The bad guy is dead, Erica's future is set, there's no cliffhanger… Granted, it was set up for a season 2 with the "I was not alone" part, but it's still an ending, and a 2 h movie wouldn't do any good.

Damn it, I really liked this show!!! I think EW was a victum of bad timing in '19 and it could have survived following the Blacklist on Fridays next season instead of Dateline for 2 hrs!!! If needed NBC could have moved it to a winter fill in series. At first I thought EW was gonna be a 1 season (limited) series. It would be nice of NBC would give EW a 2 hr finale like timeless got!!!
