Netflix's Turn Up Charlie will not be returning for a second season. The streaming giant confirmed today that the comedy has been cancelled, releasing a statement thanking star and executive producer Idris Elba, as well as the producers, cast, and crew.

The news does not come as a surprise, as it has been over a year since the show's freshman release. Its eight episode run flew mostly under the radar and garnered decidedly mixed reviews.

The half-hour series starred Elba as Charlie, a down-on-his-luck DJ who lands an unexpected gig that could get his career back on track. But the plan goes awry when his new job as a nanny to his friend's young daughter ends up being more than he bargained for. Spoiled and wise beyond her years, this problem-child knows how to push people's buttons in order to grab the attention of her negligent, career-driven parents.
