Fox announced today that Prodigal Son has been picked up for a second season. The good news arrives less than a month after the drama's freshman run, which put in a solid showing ratings-wise despite drawing somewhat mixed reviews.
Tom Payne stars in the series as Malcolm Bright, a criminal psychologist with a special gift of knowing how the minds of killers work. This is because in the 1990s, his dad was a notorious serial killer known as "The Surgeon." He uses his ability to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with his manipulative mother, played by Bellamy Young, and homicidal father, played by Michael Sheen, who is still looking to bond with his prodigal son.
Look for Season 2 of Prodigal Son during the 2020-2021 season.

I'm actually surprised it got renewed. Payne and Young are such awful actors that even Sheen, who to me is always brilliant, couldn't save this show. Or so I thought. They really make me cringe with how bad they handle the medical examiner. She's a cartoon character. They need to focus on having her act like an adult instead of a boy crazy teenager. Regardless, I finished the season. The ending was terribly predictable. Disappointing all the way around.

I haven't watched the last 2 eps yet so after finding out about the definite cliffhanger (thanks Jasmine & A) I'll be watching something else today and wait to watch those eps until the fall season. I have always liked Lou Diamond Phillips and have come to enjoy Tom Payne, but Michael Sheen shines in any role. I was afraid to hope for a renewal.so I'm very relieved.

Really glad this is continuing. As far as cliffhangers go, I could've seen the series wrapping there and leaving it ambiguous, so I'm really glad to know that they aren't leaving it at that.

I liked this show more than I expected. After the season finale cliff hanger, I can not wait for the show to return.

Great cop show with a family twist. Good actors. Glad it got renewed.
