No Season 3 for the crime drama.
May 10, 2021
It is being reported that Fox has cancelled Prodigal Son after two seasons. The sad news comes two weeks ahead of the crime drama's May 18 sophomore finale, which will now serve as its series ender.
The show stars Tom Payne as Malcolm Bright, a criminal psychologist with a special gift of knowing how the minds of killers work. This is because in the 1990s, his father, played by Michael Sheen, was a notorious serial killer known as "The Surgeon". Malcolm uses his ability to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with his manipulative mother , played by Bellamy Young, and homicidal father, who is still looking to bond with his prodigal son.
The cancellation of Prodigal Son does not come as a complete surprise, as the show struggled to draw a sizeable audience even back in Season 1. Considered on the bubble at the time, it was the network's last series of 2020 to earn a pickup. As its numbers fell further in Season 2, Fox ultimately could not justify extending its run any further.

We LOVE this show! I plan to stop watching regular TV and start using my firestick. The ending did suck.

I saw that the show creators were trying to shop the show to other networks for a third season but Aurora Perrineau just got added to Season 4 of Westworld. Halston Sage might return to The Orville. Actors can't sit and wait for maybes. These are the types of shows that streaming services or the lesser network cable channels used to pick up but not anymore. How about a miniseries or TV movie to end the show?

I agree with everyone one of the best shows on TV now, that's not a reality or game show!! SMH, they never keep a good show with some intelligence to the story line!!! Unbelievable!! WTH!! Bring it back please please please

Real simple, folks. It's the dumbing of America. If a show requires a minimal amount of intelligence, it is doomed because every generation gets a little dumber. Pretty soon we'll have nothing left but reruns of Urkel. "Did I do thaaaat?" Yep, you did that.

Shame on Fox! Every time they start a new show that doesn't fit in the boring tv box, they get scared and cancel it. This was a great show with interesting characters. Sad to see it go.

Donāt get why everyoneās so heartbroken. Thereās no shortage of shows about āpeople understanding the minds of criminalsā helping a Police Department. White Collar is the same idea done better. Stick a fork in it and put that storyline to rest already. Every writer takes a branch off of successful shows and tries to make it their own, and thatās why they fail.

Ugh

I really wanted to watch this show but had a feeling it would not last based on the unique story. I have missed out on a lot of shows over the years due to hesitation but I just cannot handle the abrupt cancelations!!

Fox F&%$ING SUCKS!!!!
I HATE (strong word but it fits) the person that made this decision.
Michael Sheen IS AMAZING as it Tom Payne.
"My boy" and "My girl" will always be the best lines in this show.
