The new crime drama earns nine more episodes.

Fox announced today that Prodigal Son has been topped up with nine additional episodes, making it the first new show of the fall to earn a full-season pickup. The good news comes just two episodes into the drama's freshman run, which is off to a solid start in the ratings.
Tom Payne stars in the series as Malcolm Bright, a criminal psychologist with a special gift of knowing how the minds of killers work. This is because in the 1990s, his dad was a notorious serial killer known as "The Surgeon." He uses his ability to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with his manipulative mother, played by Bellamy Young, and homicidal father, played by Michael Sheen, who is still looking to bond with his prodigal son.

another case of great acing , mediocre story. will stick around a little longer, but starting to drift off during viewing.

Same old same old.. cop/legal/medical/detective show with some "twist" that they THINK makes it original.. it's not. It's the same scripts they've used for nearly 30 years and they merely "tweak" them to add whatever the twist-de-juer is at the moment. You could literally compare scripts for shows in the same genre and count the number of similar plot points. The only variation is what episode in this show uses the script from what episode from some other show. Chances are episodes for this show will follow similar lines as other "thriller/horror" based cop shows, a la Lucifer, Hannibal.. etc.

It’s not an original concept by any means but it is ok to watch. I like micheal sheen as an actor so will continue to tune in

Sat thru the 1st episode and I was done. This show is a remix of several shows. Reminds me of The Following, Hannibal and others. And, of course, it gets a full season.
This Fall New Season is a bust.

Interesting premise without the whamen mommy and you possibly could make a good show, but that won't be allowed just to simply make a good show. I suspect in the coming seasons increased political nonsense thrown at the screen in our faces.

Thanks everyone. I just spoke with my friend who says I am thinking of when Dr. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds suspected his father of being a serial killer in the Gary Michaels story line. It is Spencer's MOM who is schizophrenic. Thanks everyone! I think this is what I was thinking of. Old age right?

Good news! This is my favorite new show this fall! Hopefully it will be around for many seasons to come.
