The veteran reality series ends after 31 years.
June 9, 2020
It is being reported that Paramount Network has cancelled Cops. The news is not a complete surprise, as the show had already been pulled from the air in the wake of the George Floyd's death and the ensuing protests against police brutality.
One of the first ever reality-based television shows, Cops premiered in 1989 on Fox where it aired for 24 years before being cancelled. But it wasn't long until the series was revived by Spike TV, now known as Paramount Network. The show had been scheduled to run longer than the 32 seasons it will now stop at, but its 33rd season - originally slated for a debut yesterday - will likely never see the light of day.
With no host or narration, Cops depends completely on the police officers and the footage shot to capture each story as it unfolds. Over the course of its time on the air, the series drew consistent viewership and regularly won its time slot on Saturday nights.

@Ok what?
Not political, huh? Then please tell me why a show that does pretty darn good in the ratings on a Saturday night, despite having been on the air for 30 years, would be pulled in the same week as it's season premiere was scheduled?
They allowed a vocal and recently violent minority to dictate how they run their business.
$10 says LivePD is next because, despite the officers on the show being nearly universally loved and respected by the viewers and a constant ratings juggernaut, political correctness will win out and domestic terrorists will get their way.

Its only cancelled to make it look like the powers that be give a $hit. If people didn't complain it would still be aired. Wonder why they haven't added in the Floyd story that he held a gun to a pregnant woman stomach in 2008. Hmmmmmm

It's always a shame when quality entertainment gets politicized unnecessarily. This show was not at all political and often showed police with rather poor attitudes, just like it showed the good side. If nothing else, it was more a window into America itself, not the police. It'll be missed.
Ok what?

Yes, because if you want the hero cop narrative on television, you have nowhere else to go, except, reruns of Adam-12, the old and current SWAT shows, Chicago PD, FBI, the FBI spinoff, Blue Bloods (which has been addressing cops vs the public issues head on since its inception), but yeah, getting rid of one decades old show is part of some plot. Do any of you, left or right leaning, listen to yourselves? Come on. Address it as a tv show and leave the political agendas on Facebook and Twitter.

this is only happening cause of what is going on. this is one of the best shows on and it got pulled cause people caved in on this and are blind to what is really going on.

Another example of how a small portion of the population dictates what is acceptable and not acceptable for us to watch.

Maybe they can cast Social Workers at first line of intervention in violent crime.

Should have been canceled a long time ago it's mostly the same crap anyway. Shocked it lasted this long. On air or offair it won't be missed. :)
