The veteran reality series ends after 31 years.

It is being reported that Paramount Network has cancelled Cops. The news is not a complete surprise, as the show had already been pulled from the air in the wake of the George Floyd's death and the ensuing protests against police brutality.
One of the first ever reality-based television shows, Cops premiered in 1989 on Fox where it aired for 24 years before being cancelled. But it wasn't long until the series was revived by Spike TV, now known as Paramount Network. The show had been scheduled to run longer than the 32 seasons it will now stop at, but its 33rd season - originally slated for a debut yesterday - will likely never see the light of day.
With no host or narration, Cops depends completely on the police officers and the footage shot to capture each story as it unfolds. Over the course of its time on the air, the series drew consistent viewership and regularly won its time slot on Saturday nights.

Reno 911! is no longer a joke but the new coming reality. Prepare as the woken nightmare invades your neighborhood in its warped safety spongy asexual thing a muk ding.

MoeB, is that sarcasm or an astounding level of ignorance?

High rated shows get cancelled all the time. Hawaii Five O (sp?) was still popular but got cancelled due to the star wanting to move on. It wasn't feasible to do the show without him, so it ended. And surprise, it was a show about hero cops. I don't recall it ever being affected by police brutality in the news, either.
If you care more about the end of a television show than the current events leading to sensitivity about the subject matter (i.e. human lives, both average citizen AND police being ended or affected), you're part of the problem.

Was this cancelled because of that one that died? For shame.

I'm sorry.. but disliking this show because of the profession it focuses on is like hating all cooking shows because Paula Dean is a horrible racist person. Or demanding Seinfeld be pulled from the air entirely due to the Michael Richards incident.

"Cops" as an institution needs to be rethought and reworked and demilitarized... "Cops" as a television show is fine and should remain on the air. If you're up in arms over a TV show.. you REALLY need to get a life.

I don't see how anyone, after reading these comments, could ever think that racism is still continuing in this day and age. It's clearly no longer a relevant topic.

I can't believe this show was still on the air. Did people really find it entertaining? I always thought it was so boring.

So happy to hear this! The entire show was fascist propaganda created in 1989 to coincide with the war on drugs.
Police are scum and there is no such thing as a good cop because any good cop would have long ago resigned and handed in their badge out of disgust at what modern day law enforcement has become.

I guess Live PD is next, A&E already pulled it a couple of weeks ago, although it’s their most watched program. I’m still standing by our men & women in blue, thank y’all for your service.
