No Season 2 for the midseason drama.

Word is out that NBC has cancelled Council of Dads after one season. Star J. August Richards took to Twitter this afternoon with the sad news, which comes ahead of next week's scheduled season finale - now its series ender.
The show premiered in March for a 10-episode midseason run that ultimately underperformed for the network. Critical reception was decidedly mixed and ratings were among the lowest on NBC compared to its other dramas.
Council of Dads follows a father of four whose life is turned upside down after an unexpected health scare. Concerned for his family's well-being in the case of his absence, he recruits some of his closest friends to step in as back-up dads to help guide his kids through every stage of their lives.

Dammit! Why is something with an original script canceled and all of the reality shows prevail. I agree with Dianna and John.

I am seriously mad that this show got cancelled. I looked forward to watching it every week. It was something new and different to watch. I am so sick of all of the good TV shows getting cancelled, yet all of the ridiculous reality crap will be around forever.

Mandy, kudos for laying bare the ridiculousness of reality tv. It's abhorrent to see multiple women debase themselves over one male! I truly appreciated this show and wish it hadn't been canceled. And although it had many different people from many different backgrounds it didn't just concentrate on that but rather on what these people meant to each other & to that family. I didn't see it as being politically correct but rather as showing the decency of human beings (in spite of their own trials & tribulations).

This is ridiculous.... I have absolutely no interest in reality shows, I would much rather watch a regular tv show like this than some stupid brainless dating show where every female is throwing themselves at 1 man and is in love with this guy the 1st day.
This is why I have Hulu and Netflix and more of my friends are doing the same because they get interested in a show and it's cancelled before the network gives it a chance.

Of course they gotta cancel a show that shows Fathers being responsible and not focusing all on the strong independent mothers. Not all fathers are pieces of garbage or stupid like lots of sitcoms like to portray them as. Most are actually quite competent and responsible and intelligent. Cant have that on TV though.

At the point the rich white kid starts whining because he isn't special like everyone else in the family, I knew the end couldn't be far behind. Stop trying to please every single segment of society and just write. The show started out great but was quickly pushed off the rails for political correctness. Bye!

OK, I watched but this show had too many sub plots and everyone had something they were dealing with. Nobody on this show was reasonably happy. It was kind of trying to do "This is Us", but so much more drama. I stuck with it thru all the episodes, but I didn't think it would survive.

I can't believe that this show is being cancelled. This was one of the best shows brought to tv lately. NBC should reconsider.
