The network has reversed its original renewal.
September 16, 2020
It is being reported that ABC has cancelled Stumptown after one season - walking back its original decision to renew the series back in May. The sad news is the latest in a recent trend of networks reversing renewals months after handing them out.
The drama premiered last fall and put in a decent showing during its 18-episode run, garnerning strong critical praise and respectable ratings on Wednesday nights. It appears ABC's decision is related to setbacks in filming due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has affected the futures of numerous shows this year.
Based on the Stumptown graphic novels, the series stars Cobie Smulders as Dex Parios, a less-than-perfect army veteran living in Portland, Oregon. She's quick-witted, carries a gambling debt, has a complicated love life, and takes care of her brother. She utilizes her military intelligence in her job as a private investigator, but her unapologetic nature makes her a target of dangerous criminals and often at odds with the local police.

Did TV really need another show about a 110 lb supermodel beating up grown men anyway, it's like the entire TV landscape has become saturday morning cartoons.

I really am not surprised, and think we'll be seeing more of this. Remember how many shows fell to the writer strike a few years back and COVID has taken a much longer toll.

Typical b.s. from these networks...I am really tired of them all...can't leave anything on that people might like just for the entertainment...instead they keep putting on this reality garbage ..come out of your bubbles and leave these shows alone...

Well, that sucks. Bad enough to be cancelled, but announcing it's renewal, and then months later turning around and cancelling it? Why even bother to try out any new shows? They cancel them even though the ratings are decent and the reviews are good.

I'm confident this show will get picked up elsewhere. Maybe once it's on a streaming service it can be even closer to the Dex Parios from the comics.

So let's just keep all the brainless reality shows and cancel shows that make you think. I am currently watching love island with a friend, and I am losing I.Q points just watching. The next person who says ummm or like is going to get throat punched, and every one of these people on here should go home with a super sized bottle of antibiotics to fight the cases of mono they are spreading around. But apparently that is entertainment in the United States now??? GROSS!!!!

What's the point of watching TV when all the good shows get canceled??

This really makes me mad. My mom and I loved this show. They cancel this, but are still showing the Bachelor/Bachelorette? Some people like original shows, not crap about who can make the biggest a$$ of themselves trying to win the affection of some fake a$$ person. And blaming Covid? What a crock of crap that is.
