The CW announced today that Black Lightning will be coming to an end next year after its upcoming fourth season. The news comes 10 months after the superhero drama was last renewed and just days after a spin-off series, titled Painkiller, was confirmed to be in the works.

The hour-long series debuted in 2018 as a mid-season replacement and has been a decent performer for the network over the course of its run. It was notably the first DC-based superhero show to feature a Black lead, and today it joins Supergirl as the second DC drama to end in 2021.

Black Lightning follows a man who, years ago, was bestowed with superhuman powers that enabled him to harness and control electricity. Long retired from putting his life on the line, a recent rise in crime and corruption in his community bring him back into action for the sake of his family and the soul of his city.

The fourth and final season of Black Lightning premieres on Monday, February 8.
