Jimmy Fallon will continue his run for five more years.
May 17, 2021
NBC announced today that The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has been extended for another five years. The news is not really a surprise, as reports have been circulating for some time that Fallon had already secured a new contract back in late 2020.
Jimmy Fallon hosts this seventh incarnation of the 'Tonight Show' on NBC. He has been the face of the storied franchise since 2014 when he took it over from Jay Leno. Airing weeknights at 11:35pm, the show features an opening monologue, comedy sketches, interviews with celebrities, and games that often include competitions between Fallon and his guests.

I only watched Craig Ferguson’s show regularly. Fresh and outrageously funny. The Robot skeleton and Secretariat added to the fun. The rest of late night is the standard boring gabfest.

Ferguson may not have talked politics but on his show he was 100% liberal and that stupid sidekick skeleton schtick was awful from the first day to the last. (Remember all the tryouts before Ferguson got picked to host it?) I used to watch the talk shows pre Colbert (on CBS) so I know all of those pretty well. None are watchable but I'll check in rarely for a guest or a band. Even that's become rarer and rarer.

ZOMG Love_Texas & Backup guy, *THANK YOU*!!! I thought I was the only one! Ever since Trump, it's all they can talk about, even now that he's gone! I'm sick of it! I no longer watch any late night talk shows, even Conan (who's new format is supremely boring).
I used to really like Ferguson as well, but if you didn't see, he mentioned several times after he left that he was really hating it towards the end. He's kept the worst of it close to that vest that I've seen, though. He stays out of politics so much that even now I don't think he's mentioned a word about how he voted then & now about Scottish Independence; that said, my own feeling is he'd vote yes because you don't go through all that effort to become an American citizen if you don't believe it freedom, and he has the Don't Tread on Me tattoo to boot!

I am not a fan since Leno left. I think the show is boring to watch. Oh well.

I hated Craig Ferguson’s fast talking uncleverness. If you had spouse like her, you’d have to kill her.

adam kidd - good correction that indeed these shows are included on the pay for streaming services (and virtually everywhere else). But they are near freebies on streaming services as they are broadcast on the “over the air” channels. Any service can probably carry the channels for minimal cost since it isn’t exclusive. Providers want their best stuff on platforms where they can make the money. Over the air broadcasts are laden with ads and filler programming because CBS, NBC, ABC, and others can get away with it - which is an abuse of the “over the air” priveledge.

Craigy Ferg and Geoff Peterson made the best late night show since Carson. Man, I want them back.
Ferguson included very little politics and he didn't take himself seriously. It's amazing how quickly late nite TV has fallen.

@steve almost every element of the Tonight Show, Late Night, Late Show, Late Late Show, Conan, Jimmy Kimmell Live and Last Week Tonight are reposted on their respective YouTube channels. In fact, Late Nite fans can get "A Closer Look" on YouTube a few hours before the show even airs. They know they make more money delivering to online audiences. They also all appear on the respective network streaming platforms as well.

Brilliant idea: Why not have a talk show that DOESN'T include politics - at all. No social agendas. I would watch that! Maybe skip the band and even the monologue? Just have on celebrities pushing their new show / movie -- and telling funny stories from the set or real life? I would watch. Used to love Craig Ferguson... which, BTW, Happy Birthday 59th Craig F. We miss you and Celebrity Name Game, too!!
Happy Viewing!! :-)
