Freeform announced today that Cruel Summer has been renewed for a second season. The good news comes just hours before the drama wraps its 10-episode freshman run, which garnered favorable reviews and a decent amount of buzz.
Set across three different years in the '90s, the series follows the mystery behind a girl's kidnapping. Kate Wallis is a popular teen who lives a charmed life - until one day she vanishes without a trace. Jeanette Turner is a nerdy poser who gets accused of being connected to Kate's disappearance. While all signs point to Jeanette being involved, could she actually be the victim? And is Kate really who she appears to be?
Look for Season 2 of Cruel Summer in 2022.

@ LB It's most likely going to be a different story with different characters. Have you seen The Sinner? Same name for the series yet different story lines for the seasons.

The heck are they gonna do in Season 2?! This story is told! I don't think it needs to be stretched and twisted around for a Season 2. I do hope they take the concept and style of this series, and tell a new story that's either entirely different or only loosely related to this one. Kinda like Fargo, which walks a fine line between being an Anthology and being a continuation.

I love this show and was glad to see it was picked up for another season. I am very excited to see where they will take the show next. So much fun!

Is the second season going to be the same characters continued storyline or same cast telling a different story or new cast entirely any way they do it these Freeform Jessica Biel produced shows Sinner and now Cruel Summer do keep your interest but definitely have a formulaic feel to them which will get old real soon for me

Awesome news. This season has been very compelling, and the multi-timeline format is interesting though at times hard to follow. Interested to see if they go anthology route with new characters and story, or if there will be some new mystery for the season one characters.

Knowing it was Jessica Biels and me absolutely loving The Sinner, I had to give this one a try. And I'm not one to like the back and forth, this timeline that timeline genre but in all honesty it is worth the watch.
Definitely worth a renewal.
