The martial arts drama scores another early pickup.
August 27, 2021
Netflix announced today that Cobra Kai has been renewed for Season 5. It's another early pickup for the drama, which won't return for its fourth season until December.
The half-hour series premiered in 2018 on YouTube Premium, where it quickly became one of its strongest-performing originals. But its time there was limited, as the platform moved away from scripted fare after its first two seasons. Netflix saw a golden opportunity and stepped in for Season 3, and the move has more than paid off, as Cobra Kai has become one of its most-popular shows.
Acting as a follow-up to 'The Karate Kid' film series, Cobra Kai is set 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. Still haunted by his past, Johnny Lawrence looks for redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo. But his old rivalry with Daniel LaRusso is reignited when their lives become intertwined with the up-and-coming generation of karate kids.

This is such a 1980s show. Can't help but enjoy it. Need to do No Retreat, No Surrender as a companion.

Love this show, and it's hilarious how people just kind of accept that karate/kung fu battles just randomly break out everywhere. I mean, in real life all those kids would still be locked up.

This is how a revival/reboot of a show should be done. Same characters, same universe, but completely different story. Ive always said that i believe this is why Japanese anime stories work so well - the characters get old and their tales just move on. They not just replaced by younger or more popular actors trying to reclaim the same charm. Good for Netflix, good for the writers - im still in...
