The Jeff Bridges drama will return for Season 2.
June 27, 2022
FX announced today that The Old Man has been picked up for a second season. The good news follows a strong start to the drama, which has been garnering solid viewership and high critical praise through its first three episodes.
Based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, the series stars Jeff Bridges as Dan Chase, a former CIA agent who has been living off the grid for years. When he realizes an unknown assassin is targeting him, Dan is forced out of hiding and finds himself chased by a friend from his past.
Look for Season 2 of The Old Man in 2023.

Very lucky, as others have said, it's so slow to start, we almost quit watching. Ended up being a great show and we looked forward to every episode. We both felt that the odd love interest was completely unnecessary, Jeff Bridges is so good on his own.

Really can't argue with that but the boring start would have been more ok for startup if it wasn't so klunky too. Fortunately, they got it together better and suspense became more satisfying. I thought it could go either way, and it still can. Apparently, there's a big production behind it and a good novel, so I'm expecting it to be worthwhile now. The basic storyline, more fully introduced in the third episode, is interesting while completely unbelievable and unrealistic, as most are. Hopefully, the characters and the suspense can make it plenty good.

It was indeed really boring for the first 45 minutes, and then... it stayed boring, and I gave up after the first episode.

Winds not Shadow but Wind Shadow would be even better.

I admit to getting intrigued by it, having watched all three episodes now. At first there were things in it that I found ineffective but eventually it smoothed out for me. You want to make sure you hear all the dialog in the third episode where much is explained although most of what you see is as simple as it seems. There is a single novel that the story should be following, so it has a purpose and it could have been one season and done. Jeff Bridges hasn't been doing TV but now I think he's also going in this as a producer. I noticed at the end of the third episodes that the credits ran forever, like a movie. The early renewal may have been preordained to finish the story, or perhaps the apparent stature of Jeff Bridges has everything to do with it. Someone commented here that Dark Shadows could have gotten its early renewal because Robert Redford was one of the producers, which makes sense to me. I'm not watching that, at least for now, but I'm glad I gave this a look. I can't say what's in the trunk though.
