The 'Game of Thrones' prequel will return for a second season.
August 26, 2022
HBO announced today that House of the Dragon has been renewed for Season 2. The early pickup comes after a record-breaking start to the prequel series; its premiere episode on Sunday garnered the largest audience for an original show in network history.
Based on George R.R. Martin's 'Fire & Blood' novel, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of 'Game of Thrones,' which concluded in 2019 after an 8-year run. The series chronicles the story of House Targaryen, including the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, aka the 'Dance of the Dragons', and the war that erupted over control of the legendary Iron Throne.

I don't care for the "woke and moderization" and straying from the soruce material.
That said, there are some good characters and good scenes in this show and the cgi is pretty decent. Martin definitely wrote this, as it is filled with the twists ands tells he had woven into GoT so well.
Not sure I really care for all the time jumping either, especially since only some of them seem to age lol. It's disjointing.
Still, if you are looking to watch something, this is decent to pass the time, if you can get past the weird wokeness.

If you watch the show on HBOMAX, you can skip the title sequence, as well as the recap.
Huh?

S'okay thus far (3eps).... but I gotta say a 2 minute title sequence is rather silly. All the show needs is a 10-15 second title card. I will never understand the overinflated egos that purposefully waste the time of viewers with the need to present names at the opening of each episode when all the names are at the end of every episode. HBO needs to trim all title sequences to NO MORE than 30 seconds.

It's funny, I hated Matt Smith in Doctor Who and I hate him here for entirely different reasons, but at least this time I'm supposed to hate him.

Last Kingdom was very good.Don't know if this will last but you have to give it a chance.Don't really trust HBO as they got rid of Raised by Wolves.

The show is solid with matt smith really being a good villianous character. The cast is good and it is well done. Of course season 8 of got was excrement but this seems like a good prequel. I do think the best type of sword and sorcery shows in the last decade was the last kingdom though.

Not surprised it broke viewing records... people were curious to see what it was like. Whether or not it will maintain that level... I seriously doubt it. BIG production doesn't mean BIG quality viewing.

The renewal was a foregone conclusion. After the disastrous Season 8 finale of GoT, if HBO finally zero'ed in on HotD and gave it a full season, it was only because HBO had panned ahead and wanted it to go on for a while, at least 4-5 seasons, with a proper pre-planned ending.

I couldn't help but think what a business loss this might be if the series wasn't renewed with its seemingly very high production values; set design; costumes; staffing/personnel numbers of cast & crew.
With this, I also can't help comparing the series (GOT and HotD) to "The Outpost" and its production level:)
Lastly, I can't help looking for a stray plastic water bottle or paper coffee cup erroneously left behind and caught by the cameras.
Congratulations to the production, cast, and crew to the 2nd season award:)
