Netflix announced today that The Diplomat has been renewed for Season 2. The pickup is an early one, coming just two weeks after the political drama released its 8-episode freshman run to favorable reviews from both critics and viewers.
The series stars Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom. With war brewing on one continent and erupting on another, Kate must diffuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London, and adjust to her new role in the spotlight - all while trying to survive her marriage to a fellow career diplomat and political star.
"Fans around the world are loving every minute of 'The Diplomat's' gripping and propulsive drama, and embracing Keri Russell's powerful performance as Kate Wyler," said Jinny Howe, vice president of Drama Series, Netflix. "After that jaw-dropping cliffhanger, we can't wait for them to see what the amazing visionary team of Debora Cahn, Janice Williams and Keri Russell have in store for Season 2."

I found the show to be a very interesting political & relationship drama. If you quantify a show's worth by the amount of violence or action scenes in it then you will probably find it boring.
'The Diplomat' is about plotting, hidden motives and schemes and how personal relationships can either augment or blow up the professional/diplomatic ones.
I also appreciated how well the show was integrated in the current zeitgeist with an old president looking to secure a new vice-president for his next term as well as references to European diplomats having to call flags on plays with their counterparts when the former US president blew up talks with the US's European allies.

I really enjoyed this show...reminded me a little of the West wing..(oops..dating myself)...oh well...I felt it had a lot of political fast moving parts...glad to see s2.

Renewed? Really? It was as dull as ditch water, I had to speed flick through the last half of the series to see if anything actually happened worth watching, it didn't.
