The cop drama will not return for a second season.
May 8, 2023
It is being reported that East New York has been cancelled by CBS after one season. The news comes ahead of this Sunday's season finale, which will now serve as the series ender.
The procedural drama follows Regina Haywood, the newly promoted deputy inspector of East New York, a working-class neighborhood of Brooklyn. She leads a diverse group of officers and detectives, some of whom are reluctant to utilize her creative methods of law enforcement during the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification.

"a diverse group of officers and detectives...during the midst of social upheaval"
And you wonder why it didn't last? It's one thing to make this a central theme. It's another to advertise it like this, which is just telling half the country they aren't meant to be the audience.
There's a strong pushback down on the overly-woke BS coming out of Hollywood at the moment, with big name leftist actors even saying it's gone too far. I fully expect this experiment to be over in the next couple years as businesses and Hollywood start to realize that catering to the lowest common denominator means catering to low or no standards.

This is disappointing! The show had some great story lines and a really good cast.

Another decent show cancelled, probably need to make room for more ridiculous reality crap.

Too many weeks it started late, so on the DVR you never seen the beginning or ends of episods.. was a good show though

East New York was gritty - well written and the characters were portrayed by professionals. I'm very disappointed in this cancellation and hope CBS will reconsider.
So often it's the best shows that do not survive, while mediocre series continue on and on.

Steve…..You’re a little confused. I’m allowed to comment on whatever I want. Also, you just did the same thing. Hypocrite much?

A solid show that I'll miss. Good cast, snappy stories. It had the potential to grow!
yeah I figured

When they kept getting moved to two weeks away when it wasn't even sweeps, I knew this show was doomed. It didn't help that the plots were generic.

Very bland. Having a black woman in a position of power is no longer ground breaking. You can't have that as your only hook and expect people to keep tuning in.
