It is being reported that Paramount+ has cancelled The Game after two seasons. The news comes four months after the revived dramedy ended its sophomore run on the streaming service.

The series originated on The CW back in 2006 as a spin-off of the TV show 'Girlfriends' in the format of a half-hour comedy. It was eventually canceled after three seasons but was subsequently picked up by BET as an hour-long dramedy, and continued to air for another six seasons until 2015.

Today's cancellation is part of an overall cost-cutting effort by the streaming service, which will include the removal of a number of shows from the platform shortly, including both seasons of The Game revival. Word is that all nine seasons of the original series will remain on Paramount+ for the time being.

The Game revival follows the players and families of a Las Vegas professional football team as they tackle racism, sexism, classism and other issues while fighting for fame, respect, money and love – all while trying to maintain their souls as they play the game.
