The streamer has reversed its previous renewal.
August 18, 2023
It is being reported that Amazon's Prime Video has cancelled The Peripheral after one season. The move walks back the renewal that was given to the sci-fi drama six months ago. Word is that the decision came about due to the ongoing writers and actors strikes, which are now into their fourth and second months respectively.
Based on the 2014 book of the same name by William Gibson, The Peripheral follows Flynne Fisher, a smart and ambitious young woman living in the rural American South. She works at a 3D printing shop and plays VR games for rich people to earn extra money. One night she dons a headset and finds herself in futuristic London. It's a sleek and mysterious world, but it's not like any game she's played before. Flynne soon realizes this virtual reality experience is actually very real. 70 years in the future, somebody in London has found a way to open a door to Flynne's world. As Flynne searches to find the person who connected their worlds, her presence sets dangerous forces into motion that are intent on destroying Flynne and her family in her own world.

Yet they wonder why people are dropping all streamers.

WTAF. I’m starting to get tired of streaming Giants like Netflix and Prime Video, that cancel awesome shows for frivolous and bullshit reasons. They have to know that eventually people will still stop subscribing to them because they can’t trust them. Why invest time watching a show when Netflix or Prime Video are just going to fucking cancel them anyway. Real good example? The warrior nun. Fantastically written, well acted, perhaps one of the most interesting and niche series. I’ve seen in a long time, and Netflix goes. Nope, no more. Only to revive the series from tremendous pressure and backlash from their fans and subscribers.and yet a crappy series like Citadel gets renewed when the acting and the writing is a fucking dumpster fire. I’m going to have to wait until S2 comes out for every fucking show. I watch them in future because I don’t trust the showrunner not to cancel them before getting invested in a new TV show.

And they wonder why people wait for season two, before even beginning season one.

This was an awesome show with great special effects and Amazon is getting to be as ignorant as the major networks in canceling good shows.
