Netflix announced today that 3 Body Problem has been renewed for a second season that will conclude its story. Coming less than two months after its premiere, the news lets fans breathe easy knowing the series will come to a proper end.
"We're thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion. Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu's magnificent trilogy, we hoped we'd be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!," said creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo in a statement.
Based on the acclaimed bestselling book trilogy, "The Three-Body Problem," the series follows a young astrophysicist whose fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time to a group of present day scientists. As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity's history.

A decent sci fi show. Glad to see it return . The aliens taunting everyone with " you are bugs" was terrifying .

This one is in my Q, but I am am still on the fence storywise.
What does impress me is that netflix has made it a du-ology. I have been ranting for years that duologies should happen. The trilogy is so overused and the third ones catch so much heck. I have wanted writers, filmmakers, producers, to step outside the hackneyed and give us duologees.
The hobbit could have been a duology. Wasted opportunity to wham bang with a start and follow with an end.
And I applaud netflix for taking a book based trilogy and separating some wheat and chaff and giving two seasons to give a more impact-full and direct story.
26 years I have been begging creators (silently in my head, and verbally with friends) to drop reliance on trilogies and give us twos. And alien 4. And that was a good three. Alien three. Better than Season of the witch.

I only read the first book in preparation to watch the series and was surprised when the first book ended mid-season one. Now I get it, and happy to hear the entire trilogy will air!

Good news! Not sure why they adapted a trilogy of books into 2 series, but at least it will have a beginning and an end, and not be left hanging midway through.

I read that D&D originally wanted the show to go for four seasons. Guess the deal they made with Netflix for a final second season changed their minds.
My hope is that it will be longer and split into multiple parts so they don’t need to cut as much as they had planned.

Yes! I assumed this would happen based on the way they left season one. My family really enjoys the show.

Great news! It would have been a bad look to cancel the show mid-story. I thought it would go to three seasons, but I'll take a proper ending any day.
