Netflix has clarified the future of 3 Body Problem relating to its renewal that was announced a couple of weeks ago. At the time, the streaming service simply stated that the sci-fi drama had been renewed but did not go into specifics.
In a new post to social media, Netflix has confirmed that 3 Body Problem will air three seasons in total to tell the complete story of the book series.
Showrunners David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo shared their excitement on being able to finish telling the story that they intended. "We included a lot of what we loved from the [novels by Cixin Liu] in Season 1, but the vast majority of reasons we wanted to make this show are in Season 2," said Weiss. "We always wanted to get to the final page of the third book, and it's really, really thrilling to us that we will get to do just that."
Based on the acclaimed bestselling book trilogy, "The Three-Body Problem," the series follows a young astrophysicist whose fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time to a group of present day scientists. As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity's history.
