Netflix announced today that The Diplomat has been renewed for a third season. The pickup is another early one for the acclaimed political drama, coming three weeks ahead of its sophomore premiere on October 31. Production on Season 3 is already underway in London and New York City.

The series premiered in April 2023 and immediately became the streamer's #1 most-viewed title during its first two weeks, reaching the Top 10 in 87 countries. It garnered over 173 million hours viewed in the four weeks following its premiere.

The series stars Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom. With war brewing on one continent and erupting on another, Kate must diffuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London, and adjust to her new role in the spotlight - all while trying to survive her marriage to a fellow career diplomat and political star.

In the upcoming second season, Kate's world is ripped apart following a deadly explosion in the heart of London. Her worst fears unfold when she realizes that the attack didn't stem from a rival nation — it came from inside the British government. As the veteran diplomat gets closer to the truth, she must contend with a fraught marriage to Hal Wyler, who's very much alive and her only real ally.
